Title: COMPUTER OPERATOR Location: United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach Job Number: 25000057 **Job Summary:** This position involves the operation and monitoring of multiple computer systems and their associated peripheral and data communication network equipment for real-time and batch mode electronic data processing, in accordance with established schedules and procedures. **Duties and Responsibilities:** - Candidates for this position must be U.S. citizens. - Under supervision, operate and monitor enterprise servers and information systems that support various business operations, including merchandising, sales, distribution, and financial management. - Oversee environmental equipment in the data center and respond to any abnormalities as outlined in procedures. - Monitor and respond to fire and electrical systems within the data center. - Control and manage physical access to the data center, providing escorts as necessary. - Work under the guidance of a designated supervisor, who will outline objectives and priorities. Completed tasks will be reviewed for adherence to deadlines and accepted practices, based on reports, log notes, and customer feedback. - Maintain a thorough understanding of current job scheduling tools. - Cultivate familiarity with multi-system software to gain operational experience with various computer applications used in the data center. - Manage storage media, including mounting, supplying printers with necessary forms, and maintaining the magnetic tape media and disk library for backup storage. - Operate stand-alone systems for data receipt and transmission, as well as backup functions. - Keep accurate operational input/output control logs and ensure the accuracy of outputs before releasing them to users. - Document anomalies that occur daily and communicate these to upper management and support personnel. - Collaborate with software engineers, application programmers, and equipment engineers on issues requiring a change in operational procedures. - May require the ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds. - Willingness to work weekends and holidays as part of a 24/7 operational requirement. - Perform additional related duties as assigned. **Position Designation:** This role is categorized as IT-2 Non-critical Sensitive in accordance with SECNAVINST M-5510.30, which requires a favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI). **Department of the Navy (DON) Cyber Information Technology Cybersecurity Workforce:** - This position falls under the Cyber IT Cybersecurity Workforce in specialty area 45. As a condition of employment, candidates must comply with the DON Cyber IT Cybersecurity Workforce Program requirements outlined in SECNAV M-5239.2, which includes: 1. Earning and maintaining appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT CSWF Qualification Matrix as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 aligned with job responsibilities. 2. Participation in 20 hours of continuous learning (CL) activities annually, documented in a current individual development plan (IDP), signed by both the employee and supervisor. 3. Required minimum cybersecurity credentials in the following order of precedence to qualify for the position: - **Education:** At least one of the following: - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a relevant field as listed in SECNAV M-5239.2 Appendix 4. - Cybersecurity certifications such as CNSSI NTSSI 4015 Systems Certifiers and 4016 Risks Analysts. - **Training:** Completion of one of the specified training programs. - **Certification:** One of the following certifications is required: - CompTIA Security - GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) - Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) - Operating System Computing Environment Certificate - A signed Privileged Access Statement. Candidates lacking the required certification may still be considered for this position but must obtain the necessary certification and, if required, the Operating System Computing Environment certificate within six months of appointment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment. Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens. **General Experience:** A minimum of two years of experience in administrative, technical, or investigative work demonstrating the necessary skills and abilities to perform technical and analytical tasks involving management information systems. **Specialized Experience:** At least one year of data processing experience, which includes monitoring batch processing and managing scheduled environments. Proficiency in a Windows environment and familiarity with MS Office products, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel, is required. Knowledge of basic media handling and print room functions is essential. Experience with Linux or UNIX platforms is considered advantageous. **Substitution of Education for Experience:** Two academic years of study beyond the high school level may be substituted for both general and specialized experience. Of the education substituted for specialized experience, at least 6 semester hours should focus on subjects related to the computer field. Additionally, 36 weeks of study at a Technical School, comprising 20 classroom hours per week, is equivalent to one academic year beyond the high school level. This position is designated as IT-2 Non-critical Sensitive as per SECNAV M-5510.30 and will require a favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI). According to IAM1 job guidelines outlined in SECNAV M-5239.2 and the DoN Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Manual, all individuals in this position must hold and maintain one of the following IA certifications: Security GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), or any higher-level certification such as Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), GIAC Security Expert (GSE), or Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA). The preferred certification for NEXCOM is Security. Candidates who do not possess the required certification may still be considered for this position but must acquire the necessary certification or assessment within six months of their appointment.
