Summary Joining the Secret Service, Office of Investigations, Criminal Investigative Division, Cyber Intelligence Section will allow you to draw on your technological and scientific expertise to provide complex technical and forensic solutions to major cybercrime investigations. Responsibilities The selectee will serve as a Computer Scientist (Cyber) in the Office Investigations, Criminal Investigative Division. Typical work assignments include: Serving as a subject-matter specialist on complex special cyber investigative network solutions as a team member on technology projects providing support to domestic and foreign field offices, or at major investigative and protective events. Assessing threats on systems to determine if there are any vulnerabilities; examining computer systems, storage, or memory to determine if contents have been compromised and if necessary, determines the method or technology used to violate system's security. Monitoring network and actively remediates unauthorized activities. Managing change control, and the design, development, testing and implementation of additions or enhancements; integrate multiple forensic tools and explores new uses for hardware to support cyber infrastructure investigations. Coordinating with internal and external customers regarding design and development of investigative tools to prevent cyber-attacks. Serving as a technical advisor to various investigative programs within CID. This Computer Scientist (Cyber) position starts at a salary of $101,401, GS-12 step 01, with promotion potential to $156,755 GS-13, Step 10. Qualifications To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Minimum Qualification requirements as listed below: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Successfully completed a bachelor's degree in computer science. OR B. Successfully completed a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $101,401) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as: Assisting with computer system operations and maintenance to higher graded team members in executing complex hardware and software development initiatives. Utilizing forensic tools and techniques related to computers, mobile devices, or other electronic devices to accomplish technical support tasks. Applying cyber investigative tools and techniques to identify and recover forensic artifacts from computers, mobile devices, or other electronic devices. Providing oral and written reports to higher graded team members regarding work performed in developing, deploying, and monitoring of cyber security settings that highlights findings and analysis.
