The Concentration In Human Services (CHS) is one of three tracks in the Sociology undergraduate major. The CHS was initiated by local human services professionals in 1992 to professionalize the field of human service. The CHS prepares students to work directly with service recipients using a variety of modalities . Inspired by European social pedagogy, the CHS has a distinct focus on human rights and international soclal welfare. For more information on the CHS, refer to http://www.newpaltz.edu/sociology/humanservices.html The primary responsibilities of the position will be to teach the following core courses in the CHS:• Introduction to Human Services, a survey course, which requires a broad knowledge of diverse human services populations and programs as well as social welfare policies;• Human Services Theory and Practice I with a focus on trauma and various assessment modalities;• The senior-year Field Education Internship courses, which include teaching the field education courses, individual and group supervision, and site visits to internship placements;• Other courses as needed. Participation in departmental and university service Is expected, as is engagement in ongoing professional development activities. Qualifications: Required:• A terminal degree, preferably an L.M.S.W., L.C.S.W, D.S.W, or a Ph.D. in Social Welfare• Background in theoretical expertise and clinical hands-on practice experience with diverse populations in the field of human services• Comprehensive understanding of the lived experience of direct support practitioners in residential settings• Commitment to the professionalizatlon of the human services workforce Preferred:• Experience teaching at the university level to a diverse student body with evidence of teaching excellence• Expertise, experience, and professional networks among human services agencies in the Mid-Hudson Valley• Familiarity with the field of sociology Contact Information: Electronic submissions required.
