Job Description
As a Confirmation Scientist II, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting test results. You will support the optimization of laboratory workflow, provide process feedback, implement changes, and assist in SOP updates as necessary. Additionally, you will monitor test performance, ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications, and assist in the orientation, training, and competency assessment of laboratory staff.
ResponsibilitiesProvide daily supervision of high complexity test performance by qualified testing personnel.Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytical performance.Serve as a key operator responsible for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and liquid handling systems.Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on laboratory instrumentation as needed.Maintain and monitor reagent integrity, order materials, and ensure the quality of working stock solutions using SOPs.Participate in CAP Proficiency Testing, review, report, and archive laboratory data following approved SOPs and quality control guidelines.Review and certify MS data for reporting, seeking corrective action for patient samples not meeting criteria during data review.Ensure work requirements are completed in compliance with protocols, SOPs, and CAP/CLIA regulations or guidelines.Maintain facilities, equipment, supplies, and reagents according to safety, occupational health, and environmental protection guidelines.Stay updated on the field of toxicology, techniques, and instrumentation management.Read and understand all required SOPs and assigned continuing education courses.Assure that remedial actions are taken and investigations are completed whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.Provide orientation and training to all testing personnel.Plan and allocate resources appropriate to the clinical laboratory environment.Develop and participate in educational programs for laboratory staff.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.Experience with pipetting, specimen handling, and processing.Knowledge of toxicology, ELISA, and assay development.Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and CLIA regulations.Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation.Strong organizational and time management skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with process development and sample management.Ability to provide technical problem resolution according to established policies and procedures.Experience in providing educational programs and training to laboratory staff.Competency in performing preventative maintenance and repairs on instrumentation.Work Environment
This position is based onsite in the Raleigh lab, working 2nd shift hours from 4pm to 12am, Wednesday through Sunday. The work environment includes maintaining and using laboratory facilities, equipment, supplies, and reagents in accordance with applicable safety, occupational health, and environmental protection guidelines.
