Current information about the Center’s many programs and activities are available at The Carter Center.” SUMMARY: The Carter Center has launched a new project focused on reducing identity-based violence and strengthening elections within the United States. A key component of this work will be the establishment of networks of community leaders in target states who will advocate for adherence to basic democratic principles and help strengthen anti-violence norms. The Center is recruiting a part-time consultant in each of seven states (hereafter, “the Consultant”) to assist in these efforts. The seven states include Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Consultant’s primary responsibilities will be identifying possible community participants for these local networks, facilitating introductions for the Carter Center to these stakeholders, conducting analysis of local dynamics, and identifying capacity needs and potential support to address those needs. The Consultant will also play a role in facilitating relevant workshops and assisting with message development. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree in conflict resolution, political science, sociology, law, divinity, religion, journalism, or related field. - Significant roster of contacts with faith leaders, community activists, business leaders, and civic organizations in the target state, including individuals across the political spectrum. - Experience with facilitation and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively across political, gender, or racial/ethnic divides. - Excellent organizational, time management skills, and attention to detail. - Effective verbal and written communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Post-graduate degree in conflict resolution, political science, sociology, law, divinity, religion, journalism, or related field. - Experience working with communities of faith. Experience in advocacy, communications and/or public policy. - Experience with appreciative inquiry or other community mobilization methodologies. JOB DESCRIPTION: - Conduct research on possible community partners for participation in Carter Center conflict resilience networks. - Interview possible community partners to assess possibilities for participation in resilience networks. Facilitate introductions for the Carter Center to local community leaders. - Act as an informal “ambassador” for the Carter Center introducing this programming to the local community. - Serve as the focal point and facilitate capacity analysis of the networks to identify capacity needs. - Conduct analysis of local dynamics to help detect potential flashpoints and required interventions. - Facilitate program workshops, gatherings, and events. - Support program communications, including development of communications strategies, development of key program messages, production of print and electronic materials, and reputation management. - Report regularly on programming activities and results. - Perform other related duties as required. TIMING/LOE: This position is expected to be a part time consultancy, not to exceed an average of 20 hours/week.
