Job Summary
Monitor and analyze the electric power grid and perform a variety of transmission system congestion analyses to support generation bidding, nodal energy trading, and power marketing efforts for AEP's unregulated commercial businesses and renewable energy projects. Use complex approaches in power flow, production cost?based software, or statistical analyses to: Understand and communicate transmission system limitations, Predict locations, duration, and causes of transmission limitations, resulting in transmission congestion, Identify impacts of transmission system congestion.Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Learn basic knowledge of power markets and transmission systems and apply knowledge to work.
2. Learn and support transmission congestion studies/analysis under constant guidance.
3. Learn and support power flow analyses and production cost simulation.
4. Support monitoring of transmission congestion in RTO markets and understand congestion trends.
5. Develop and support ability to analyze and create practical solutions to well-defined congestion problems under constant guidance.
6. Develop and support ability to effectively monitor issues discussed in RTO stakeholder meetings.
7. Develop clear, effective verbal and written communication skills.
8. Learn basic mathematical models and software programming and apply knowledge to work.
9. Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSECE/BSCEE) from an ABET-accredited university, with a preferred emphasis in power systems Entry level position. Cooperative or internship engineering experience with an electric utility, regional transmission organization (RTO), or in the energy trading industry preferred.
