Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Engineer to serve as the lead on-site project representative performing Phase III construction engineering duties. The ideal candidate will ensure contractor’s work complies with contract plans, specifications, and standards. This role involves performing plan checking, interpreting and applying policies and regulations, and preparing detailed technical reports and designs.
ResponsibilitiesServe as the lead on-site project representative performing Phase III construction engineering duties.Observe construction improvements to ensure contractor’s work complies with contract plans, specifications, and standards.Perform plan checking, including reviewing and finalizing material take-offs and quality assurance.Interpret and apply state and local policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations.Prepare reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for projects with limited oversight.Communicate with project managers and clients regarding project issues.Attend and/or moderate meetings and provide meeting minutes.Assist in the preparation of detailed technical reports, exhibits, engineering plans, calculations, contract specifications, and opinions of probable cost.Essential SkillsProven experience in roadway construction, construction oversight, civil engineering, and inspection.Strong understanding of construction inspection, public works, material take-off, AutoCAD, MicroStation, construction layout, transportation engineering, and transportation design.Quality control and quality assurance expertise.IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification.Strong working knowledge in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.Valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation.Strong communication skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsBS in Civil Engineering.EIT certification and the ability to obtain PE is preferred.5+ years of experience in IDOT, municipal/public infrastructure, or roadway construction engineering.Work Environment
This individual will be part of the Construction Engineering team and will report to a Senior Construction Engineer. The construction team consists of 12 Engineering Technicians and 6 Engineers. This role involves working 45-55 hours per week, with 75% of the time spent on-site. A company vehicle will be provided for home use. The projects will be split between 25% IDOT and 75% non-IDOT (municipality projects), primarily with Lake County, DuPage County, Cook County, and McHenry County. Projects typically range from $1-$2 million in size. During slower construction periods in the winter, the individual will assist design teams. Training under a PE is provided, allowing the individual to accrue hours towards becoming a Resident Engineer (RE) in the future.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
