Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management team in our Richmond, Virginia office.  This position primarily involves quality control inspection on our utility projects located in the Richmond Virginia metro area.  This position offers excellent growth potential in the field of construction management and inspection services. Both full-time and part-time as needed employment opportunities will be considered.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our local team while receiving support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. The Construction Inspector will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA/QC and report documentation, on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal pipeline projects, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and other heavy civil construction projects. The Inspector will report to a Construction Manager and will be primarily based in the field and maintaining daily field reports, as-built drawings and provide regular updates on daily construction activities.

Role accountabilities:

As a Utility Construction Inspector, you will observe and inspect construction work performed by contractors, perform punch list inspections, review drawings and specifications and other technical documents, prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports and participate in project schedule and contractor invoice reviews.

The job responsibilities include maintaining quality assurance requirements and approach and monitoring code compliance issues, observing all field testing as required by the contract and performed by the contractor, and maintaining records of all testing reports. The role involves inspecting and determining deviations from general compliance with Contract Documents, and clearly and professionally informing the contractor of required corrections. Additionally, the tasks include reviewing submittals and other construction documents, recommending technical solutions, regularly attending and participating in construction meetings, safety meetings/updates, and project site coordination meetings. 

The position also involves monitoring and documenting contractor resource utilization (labor, materials, and equipment) for field changes, time and material work, and assisting with negotiation of basic field construction changes. Responsibilities extend to verifying equipment and materials installation for payment purposes, maintaining Payment Quantity documentation, performing mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities, ensuring Arcadis' project safety guidelines are met during daily inspections, and completing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

10 years of construction inspection experience on water and sewer pipeline projects.

Key Skills and Attributes:

Strong oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze and organize data. Ability to verbally communicate with the contractor, homeowners and the public onsite. Demonstrated skill in identifying, analyzing, and providing innovative solutions to problems, along with a high level of math aptitude. Ability to multi-task several priorities and possess solid time management skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications: 

Continuing Education Diploma or Certification in Construction related area, Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction, a related field of study or area preferred. Experience and understanding of utility pipeline construction.  ACI or NICET certification is a big plus. OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
