Summit Design and Engineering Services (office in South Boston, VA) is looking for Construction Inspectors (all levels) to inspect all phases of construction on highway construction, bridge and maintenance projects located in the Martinsville, VA area. \n
Responsibilities:\n\nAct and make decisions independently for routine project issues.\nFoster a partnering relationship with contractors, the general public, and other project stakeholders.\nTrain and supervise trainee inspectors.\nMonitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance of moderate complexity under the supervision of senior inspectors.\nPerform daily record keeping of project activities.\nPrepare monthly project estimates.\n\n
Skills and Qualifications:\n\nCONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience and\/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.\nSENIOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR LEVEL: High School diploma with a minimum of six years of relevant experience and\/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.\nWorking knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry.\nProficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and\/or OneDrive.\nAbility to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. \nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nWorking knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology.\nWorking knowledge of state and federal environmental, safety, EEO guidelines and regulations.\nAbility to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.\nMust be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. \nMust have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks. \nMust be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion.\nAbility to work outside in various weather conditions.\nMust be willing to work nights and weekends as needed. \n\n
