Construction Inspector I - Major Construction

**Some of what you'll be doing:**
As a Construction Inspector I, you will perform inspection work for projects to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, contract requirements on construction projects. You will evaluate and resolve field level issues and prepare and maintain construction project documentation. There are two openings: both positions will be based at the SEA and one will be sharing SEA and Seaport responsibilities.
+ You will monitor and inspect the work of contractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, schedules, federal/state law, and Port regulations.
+ You will review plans, specifications, submittals, drawings, change orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs) for requirements of the construction contract to be applied in the field.
+ You will coordinate and/or conduct on‐site testing and special inspections, verify field measurements/quantities for contract payments, monitor Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control (TESC), and ensure that a quality assurance/control program is developed and enforced.
+ You will coordinate material deliveries and delivery logistics.
+ You will participate in managing and inspecting project punch list process.
+ You will monitor change order work in the field and Force Account work.
+ You will coordinate Utility Shutdown Requests as needed for projects.
+ You will recognize potential solutions to construction issues, operational impacts, and problems and determine the most viable solution and implement where possible.
+ You will prepare and maintain documentation including inspection logs, daily reports, force accounts, materials testing, photos, and other construction records for assigned construction projects.
+ You will document contractor work that is out of compliance or deficient and initiate Non‐Conformance Report (NCR) process.
+ You will provide assistance to other Construction Management staff including research, data collection, document processing and pay application review.
+ You will coordinate and communicate routine shutdown/outages and any straightforward construction activities between contractors, tenants, stakeholders, other Port departments, and the public.
+ You will escort consultants, contractors, and visitors to project sites.
**Who you are:**
+ **Experienced** – You have two (2) years of experience in construction, general or special inspection, or other construction field work.
+ **Desired** – We hope you have OSHA 30, 40 hours HAZWOPER and/or CESCL Certification.

You can interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and contracts, identifying non-compliance with contract provisions. You are familiar with general office practices and proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ **Efficient Communicator** – You can write concise, organized, and clear communications with attention to detail and high level of accuracy. You can also organize, and update project documentation and records and can effectively communicate and coordinate construction activities with diverse groups of clients, customers, contractors, tenants, general public, and employees in a professional manner.
+ **Adaptable** – You have an adaptable style and approach in response to changing environments, and different perspectives, needs, or demands. You can work effectively in situations involving uncertainty or lack of information and respond flexibly to change.
+ **Problem-Solver** – You can engage judgment and experience to define, analyze, and resolve problems. You can also recognize potential problems and resolve them in a timely manner or escalate to supervisor/manager for resolution.
**What else you need to know:**
+ **Driver’s License** – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
+ **Work Schedule** – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends, nights and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
+ **Work Environment** – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces, work on docks and adjacent to water.
+ **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
+ **Overtime Eligible** – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
+ **Safety Requirements** – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
+ **Security Requirements** – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
