Job Title: Construction Intern

Department: Commercial Construction

Reports to: VPs of Construction Division

 

Summary of Position:

 

We are seeking an intern to assist salesmen and project managers with estimating, planning, implementing, and monitoring mechanical construction projects.  This position will provide an opportunity to gain experience in both estimating and project management and require a jobsite presence of up to 25% of the work week.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties:

 

Assemble plans, specs, and due dates for projects that will be bid. Contact suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to request pricing. Take off materials and equipment from plans and utilize Autobid estimating software to take off ductwork and piping. Assist salesmen in preparing project estimates and proposals. Assist with quantifying, ordering, and purchasing miscellaneous sheet metal and piping materials. Assist with preparing and assembling shop drawings and submittals. Assist with preparation of JIF (Job Initialization Form) to communicate project scope information to project managers and field personnel. Assist with verifying that all current plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and installation instructions are accurate and in project packages for field crews. Assist with attending job progress meetings and notify superintendent, foremen, or mechanic of status of work and schedule. Assist in scheduling delivery of materials and equipment with superintendents, foremen, mechanics, suppliers, warehouse, and sheet metal shop. Assist with coordinating project needs to maintain piping and sheet metal labor productivity. Walk projects to verify installation is according to plans, specifications, and installation instructions for equipment. Assist construction administrative staff to assemble final closeout documents such as test and balance reports, O&M manuals, as-built drawings, etc.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Ability to communicate, support, and work closely with team members and customers. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform additional physical activities that require considerable use of limbs and appendages such as climbing, lifting, reaching above shoulders, balancing, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Ability to lift, move and handle 50 lbs. tools or materials.  Ability to climb and work from ladders, aerial lifts, or scaffolding. Ability to work in tight spaces or uneven terrain. Ability to work in environmental conditions that range from working outdoors during all seasons, indoor office environments, and utility plants.

 

Compensation Range: Hourly wage range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience.
