What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction in assigned geographic region over construction managers, technical specialist, and support staff engaged in the total delivery of services safely, on time, within performance budget and quality expectations. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in construction management and involves the utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision. Travel to support client needs is required for this role.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Familiarity with and utilizing department standards.

Work with the Recruiting team to bring on new resources when approved

Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a task.

Extensive knowledge of safety requirements with a commitment to a zero accidents environment.

Ability to ensure contractor’s activities are planned and executed with safety first. Responsible for the safe performance of all contractor’s on assigned projects.

Validating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project, and then tracking changes as the project progresses.

Reviewing and approving all deliverables.

Extensive knowledge of scope and deliverables. Initiating timely change notices when deviation is made from scope, affecting schedule, deliverables or cost of the work.

Planning and organizing the work of the department team. Communicating the plan to the team, project leadership and the client.

Maintaining control of the project by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budget progress, schedule commitments and quality standards. Understanding and utilizing the project tools that are in place for project control.

Consulting with design leaders, then following up for support to ensure efficient progress and quality of technical contractual activities on one or more projects of various sizes.

Promoting continued relationships with clients.

Field construction efforts, design phase services and all subcontracting as well as participating in all major technical, cost, scheduling and performance decisions.

Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.

Providing on-site assistance during startup.

Coordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead.

Consulting with design leaders to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.

Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified.

Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for input.

Reviewing construction specifications.

Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.

Participating in the planning of training programs, continuing education opportunities and professional development of staff.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field from an accredited university is preferred.

Experience: This position requires 15 + years of relevant industrial construction management and leadership experience.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

Ability to drive an automobile safely and for extended periods of time.

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required, which may include passing a medical exam (e.g. respirator physical).

Additional physical requirements related to on-site assistance and other field activities vary by project but may include bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, walking on uneven ground, working at heights, working around hazardous equipment and machinery, and exposure to noise, dust, and extreme temperatures.
