Construction Management Principal and Business Growth Leader (Water)

Role description:

Arcadis is looking for a Construction Management Principal and Business Growth Leader (Water) based in Plantation or Boca Raton, Florida. This is a key leadership role in Arcadis’ business operations and will be responsible for leading staff and strategy implementation to drive organic growth across our Florida integrated program, project and construction management services for our water business.

The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge and expertise of the program, project and construction management services in the municipal water sector (water, wastewater and/or stormwater) along with their proven reputation in Florida for excellence in client management and business development to win and execute a growing portfolio of industry-leading projects.  

Role accountabilities:

You will report directly to the South Region Practice Leader for Construction Management services and work closely with our Florida Area Leader.  You will lead our established, well-respected team to execute our already healthy project backlog and drive our strategy for continued growth across Florida, with special focus in southeast Florida, Tampa Bay area, and central Florida. You will be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with leadership as well as all parts of the organization, including Client Account Leads, Project Managers and teams, Practice Directors and Leads, Corporate Services, and staff in other geographies and business units. You will also oversee and participate in people management activities including hiring, onboarding, staff development, performance management and terminations.

Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Foster, grow and coach a high-performing program, project and construction management teams. Lead Florida construction management business growth strategy and support in the implementation of business plan to achieve strategic business area goals at the state, regional, and national levels.  Provide leadership for the operational performance of Florida-based construction management staff to meet Area operational goals (revenue, profit, resource engagement) and deliver high quality projects within budget and schedule for our clients. Demonstrate what it means to be the trusted advisor with clients – craft and deliver tailored solutions and lead teams in the preparation of winning proposals and successful presentations. Negotiate critical issues with clients and potential teaming partners and subconsultants. Integrate into existing projects, network with team members, technical leads, and clients, and provide technical and managerial guidance. Manage projects from planning through construction of municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, stormwater systems, distribution/collection systems, and pump/lift stations. Supervise and support the work of others and mentor our project/construction managers, inspectors, cost estimators, CPM schedulers and document control managers. Manage staff and financial billability within the managed area. Work with other CM leadership to share work to maximize the South region construction management practice. Support the region’s booking and net revenue goals. Work with CM staff and the region’s business development leader to develop opportunities. Identify staffing needs and develop personnel requisitions for approval. Work with project QA/QC leads to make sure a quality and/or construction management plan is in-place and followed for each project.  Be a health and safety steward for our staff and projects.  Travel (up to 30%) may be required to conduct client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes, project site visits, team meetings, etc.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 years’ experience program, project and construction management in water / wastewater / stormwater type projects, or related.  Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Building Construction or a related Engineering degree.  Certified Construction Manager (CCM) for the CMAA or Florida P.E License

Key Attributes:

Strong client relationship skills with a successful track record of delivering construction management services that meet or exceed client expectations. Strong project and construction management experience on municipal water, wastewater, or stormwater projects of various sizes. Strong people management and mentoring skills.  Strong management skills with clear and concise written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's in Construction Management, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related professional degree such as Master of Business Administration.  20 years’ experience program, project and construction management services in water,  wastewater, stormwater type projects, or related. Collaborative delivery experience including design-build and CMAR owner’s representative services.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
