PG&E’s Underground Regional Delivery organization is working to reduce wildfire risk each day as we underground 10,000 miles of distribution lines. We are responsible for working across all internal teams and engaging external stakeholders to support successfully meeting our goals and reducing wildfire risk in our hometowns. Position Summary

The Construction Manager is responsible for construction and improvement projects in the electric UG system. The Construction Manager identifies giveaway recipients, develops soil management plans, manages spoils and recycling yards, consults on project feasibility and project site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and on a project specific basis performs construction oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies. The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed per company standards, engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

 

 We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Minimum:   $126,000

Midpoint:  $155,000

Maximum:  $200,000      

 

Job Responsibilities

Applies broad expertise to work on projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management with a high degree of knowledge and ability. Works closely with Project Managers and Electric Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects. Works with project managers, civil construction managers, and contractors to minimize soil disposal. Works with project managers, civil construction managers, contractors, and customers to facilitate clean soil giveaway in compliance with all PG&E policies and procedures. Manages UG dry spoils management yards and drilling fluid recycling yards to support 10k program. Works with project mangers and central operations to establish new UG soils management yards as needed. Tracks spoils costs and management plan for each UG project. Reports project statuses to leadership to ensure on-time delivery for all spoils management plans and support. Works with EFS and Civil Construction Managers to support pre-construction in-situ soil sampling. Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, Electric Operation Supervisors and Inspectors while assisting with change orders if needed. Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site. Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilizes workload management database, updates any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract. Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction workflow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes. Oversees the Inspection of the construction work. Coordinates the work of field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed. Communicates any engineering and design issues with Project Coordination and Engineering, seeks or makes decisions on any change affecting cost and schedule according to the DOA. Requests PG&E GC field engineer to perform site verification of content of test data and other as-built documents for accuracy and completeness. Works with Project Managers to establish planning/schedule dates for construction to commence later in the year. Assists Underground Strategy, Innovation, and Partnerships team with pilots and provides in the field support for execution and data collection. Provides mentoring and training to Associate, Career and Senior level employees

 

Qualifications

Minimum: 

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience   Seven (7) years of experience in the field of Industrial Engineering  or  Construction Travel  approximately  50%  with occasional overnight stays.

 Desired: 

9 years working experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction. Working Knowledge Primavera P6, K2, EDRS, Unifier, Primavera Contracts Manager, Prolog or similar. Demonstrated abilities in Cost accounting / Inspection / Contract administration. Familiarity with PG&E spoils management and central operations Demonstrated knowledge in Electric Undergrounding Construction. Ability to perform cost and project scheduling. Advanced knowledge of electric construction projects in all disciplines: civil, mechanical and pipelines. Familiarity with the processes and orientation of construction contracting firms. Strong project and people management skills. Ability to understand, interpret and communicate civil/electrical work procedures, process instrumentation, work methods, standards, policies, and guidelines. Demonstrates skill in achieving cooperation from others in order to achieve a goal. Ability to lead teams to perform effectively under deadlines and in emergency situations Advanced Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Knowledge of the company’s emergency management processes. Ability to lead trainings and coach less experienced employees. Long-term planning and scheduling skills.
