What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: To provide construction over-site during the execution of projects at the site to meet business plans and improve income by implementing and managing capital projects.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Actively participate in all safety programs to continually improve the safety culture of the plant and Company.

Support and help drive both plant and Corporate EHS initiatives. 

Promote an environment that achieves incident free performance through diligent proactive safety efforts and job safety planning.

Execute budgeted capital projects to ensure the safe maintenance and operation of plant and equipment in compliance with internal and legislative requirements (site and corporate policies/procedures).

Provide a critical review of new project installations to assure adherence to plant EH&S guidelines and issue thorough Management of Change documentation.

Provide construction management for contractor and issue safety permits (general work/hot work/confine space) to contractor so they can perform their work in the area.

When required assist Project managers plan capital projects from conceptual stages, cost estimating, AFE generation, through design, construction, and startup/close out stages.

Ensure that appropriate work processes are followed in defining and implementing projects so they are delivered safely, cost effectively, on time and achieve all the stated business and project objectives

Inform Project Manager of field extras to ensure that cost sheets are updated on regular basis to ensure TIC is in line with budget.

Inform Project Manager of schedule changes so that schedule is updated on regular basis to ensure project is completed on time.

To monitor progress of the external companies work, to Ensure that they follow work processes, oversee the quality of the work, control the costs and provide direction to deliver the project objectives

Provide field support to remove barriers encountered during construction.

Evaluate processing alternatives based on technical feasibility and economics during early project development.  Ensure value engineering is applied to meet project objectives.

Develop and improve area operating systems and procedures that are affected by new project installations

Complete project reporting in a timely manner and per company

Identify and assist in the implementation of cost savings opportunities within the assigned area(s). 

Apply proactive measures to identify “bad actors” / unreliable assets and recommend the corrective action to improve the asset’s life cycle costs.

Ensure the quality of construction meets the company’s standards and specs for equipment installation. 

Ensure that equipment installation will allow for safe and efficient plant operations. 

Ensure that equipment installation can be worked on safely by maintenance personnel.

Perform project design document reviews, including reviewing layout and construction drawings for best practice of operability, constructability, and maintainability. Review of construction scopes of work.

Actively contribute to the continuous improvement process through active participation in Quality Work Group, including the ML Engineering, Standards, Equipment Design, Work Process Improvement, and areas outside of their assigned responsibilities.

Seek opportunities and help drive personal skills improvement for both you and fellow employees through both internal and external training / educational programs.

Perform safety reviews of Contractor work sites, including monitoring the adherence to safety procedures,

Ideal Background

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field from an accredited university is highly preferred.

Licensing: General Contractors License is highly preferred.  

Experience: This position requires a minimum 5 years of relevant industrial construction management or project related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Proficient in using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, )

Ability to facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving efforts and team meetings

OSHA 10-hour safety training (Plus)

Experience with/ability to read electrical drawings, electrical schematics

Experience with electrical system commissioning and control system commissioning,  fiber-optic systems/installations plus excavation and directional boring

Management of Electrical Construction of the following:

Working knowledge of NFPA 70E

Familiarity with ANCI-C2 National Electrical Safety Code

Familiarity with NETA acceptance testing

4.16 kV power distribution

125 VDC battery systems

Grounding and bonding

480/277 VAC

208/120 VAC

PLC’s, Device- Net and instrumentation would be a plus

Management of other Construction activities:

Crane Lifts, lifting plans, Vessel and tank removal / installation

Demolition activities, Piping, tanks, reactors, Pumps, pads buildings and foundations

Civil construction, concrete, proper rebar installation, SPCC installations

Piping, fabrication, welding, field routing of piping,

Ability to understand P&ID’s, piping Iso’s.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates.

Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as a fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat.
