Construction Manager:

Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Construction Manager to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG). The role would be based in our Vancouver, BC office.

As the successful candidate, reporting to the Senior Construction Manager, you will have the following Key Responsibilities:

 

Support the development of proposals to clients for EPCM services at various stages of project execution Develop work plans and estimates for the CM services to support proposal development Develop or support in the development of site organization charts, staffing plans, execution strategies and methodology for executing CM services to support EPCM proposals for Front-End engineering studies and project execution work Responsible for safe work planning associated with the selection of construction execution methods, with support of the Senior CM, Project Manager and Health and Safety Manager Establish the project field procedures within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by jobsite conditions Implement the constructability process on projects, perform constructability reviews and document them Support Advanced Work Packaging on projects, coordinating with engineering, planning, procurement and estimating teams to align on Construction Work Package breakdowns Develop CWP definition to a level sufficient to develop a level three schedule Review construction/erection drawings and specifications for economic constructability, development of execution strategies, determining appropriate construction methods, and preempting problem areas Liaises with the Senior CM, and project team of design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel as required to ensure timely construction performance Assist in the development and review of construction estimates, budgets, forecasts and schedules  Develop site organization and staffing requirements required to execute construction activities within project schedule and acceptable costs Adherence to all local regulations and statutory requirements in site activities planning Assist the procurement team to review contractual agreements with suppliers, and contractors Ensure that the Senior CM is informed of construction concerns  Develop and coordinate the preparation and issue of the Construction Execution Plan. Liaise with Client team, Engineers and Contractors to deliver the project in a safe manner, on time and within budget Direct and monitor junior construction specialists in performance and direct activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved Provide construction technical support to other functions as needed Liaise with client representatives as required to ensure shutdowns, relocations, tie ins, etc. are planned safely and in a timely manner with minimum disruption Participate in contractor progress, cost and safety meetings Recommend requirements for construction resources and strategies to meet the schedule in each area Cooperate with the Pre-Operational Testing Manager in the planning of transfer packages

 

Qualifications and Experience

            Essential

Engineering Degree or Diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction of which 3-5 years should be Construction Management  EPCM experience on mining, energy or infrastructure projects Superintendent or CM experience managing projects up to $150M Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the planning and construction phases of project delivery Extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures, safe work practices, and applicable legislation Well developed management principles related to planning, production methods, leadership and coordination of people and resources. Efficient and above average skills in report writing, presentations, planning, organization, leadership, management and administrative processes Strong customer/client focus with the ability to build and maintain relationships and communicate directly with the client on key issues in a timely, efficient and trustworthy manner Strong leadership skills, the ability to lead a team and fit into a team environment Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications Familiarity with a wide range of equipment, systems, tools, and technologies used in the management of construction activities

Preferred

Experience on mining, heavy industrial or process plant construction projects Exposure to all areas of project and construction management Demonstrates good understanding and management of commercial contracts and risk Ability to operate independently and effectively direct in a multidisciplinary team environment Local to Vancouver, BC; Calgary, AB; Saskatoon, SK; or Mississauga, ON or willing to relocate Mobility required to work on project sites in North America on a rotation basis Post graduate studies in project or construction management.
