Trader Joe's is unlike any place you've ever worked. Trust us on that. The qualified professional has at least 10 years of retail construction management experience and is a raving fan of the Trader Joe's concept. This role is based in our office in Monrovia, CA.
The Construction Manager is responsible for:Manage multiple construction projects and special projects per year to ensure on-time completion, budget cost control, accuracy, and quality of workRetain and manage architects, industry experts, engineers, and general contractorsOversee architects in preparing construction documents, bringing a working knowledge and insight into refrigeration Equipment, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems
Review construction documents for accuracy and coordinate with project stakeholders in other departments, such as Purchasing, MIS, and AccountingCoordinate design, scope of work, and schedule with the store operations crew and obtain internal approvalsManage application process for all permits and governmental approvalsCoordinate construction work with property managers, including obtaining landlord approvals as required per leaseEstablish construction timetables and communicate with appropriate partiesGenerate budgets for store remodels and expansions, and other construction projectsSolicit and negotiate construction bids and memorialize agreements in standard contract formVisit job sites on an as-needed basis during constructionEnsure completion of punch list itemsReview and authorize contractor payment applications, and submit them for processingTrack costs for projects and provide regular completion status and financial reports through the project management platformSupport Directors of Construction with new stores, as needed
The Construction Manager has:Comprehensive and Construction Management skills, including extensive experience reading plans, building and analyzing budgets, creating and maintaining schedules, and negotiating with contractors.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Familiarity with National Building and Fire and Accessibility Codes
Strong understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems
