Minnesota Power is seeking a Construction Manager Senior to join our Enterprise Projects Team within the Engineering Services department to successfully execute construction management of projects. This role will lead and manage construction activities for complex, large-scale enterprise capital projects, including high voltage transmission lines, HVDC systems, solar and wind energy projects, and energy storage initiatives, all aimed at supporting Minnesota Power’s EnergyForward drive to achieve 100% carbon-free energy. When you join our Engineering Services team as a Construction Manager Senior, you will provide oversight, coordination, training, daily observation documentation, field results, quality assurance, and communication with project managers. Additionally, you will collaborate with project managers in project development, crafting project execution plans, formulating construction contracting strategies, and assisting in contractor selection. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Adhere to Minnesota Power standards, best practices, and safety protocols to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. + Participate in the execution of professional, service, and material contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions. + Support the negotiation and review of contract terms with contractors and suppliers, utilizing diverse contracting methods and strategies. + Engage with key stakeholders, including the public, and participate in outreach and engagement activities. + Manage construction activities from resource coordination and daily logs to progress updates, field reviews, compliance enforcement, and contractor management, with limited guidance. + Estimate labor and material costs to support design concepts, ensuring materials meet relevant codes and design standards. + Support planning studies and engineering from project conceptualization through commissioning. + Lead contractors and team members to accomplish successful large-scale new construction projects. + Develop and disseminates project management plans, detailing scope, schedule, and cost for projects supporting substantial capital investments, including various infrastructure projects. + Lead standalone or bundled projects, delivering on-site construction oversight as needed, and manage a range of construction and professional services contracts. + Cultivate and maintain positive relationships within and outside the organization across all project phases. + Utilize expertise in best practices and cutting-edge technologies to solve complex problems. + Ensure that both internal and external consultants/contractors adhere to company standards and safety protocols. + Possess comprehensive knowledge of the company, its operations, best practices, and customer needs, while effectively analyzing solutions and solving diverse complex challenges. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: + Bachelor’s degree PLUS eight years or more related experience is required.* OR + Associate's degree PLUS ten years or more related experience is required.* *Related experience includes areas directly related to construction management, project management, engineering, architecture, accounting, budgeting, and/or related disciplines. + Infrastructure, electric utility, or industrial fields experience is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: + This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position may report to one of the following locations which will be determined at the time of hire between the company and the selected candidate: Duluth, MN; Cloquet, MN; Eveleth, MN; Cohasset, MN; Coleraine, MN; or Little Falls, MN. + Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as travel is required. + Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills for establishing and sustaining relationships, effective stakeholder communication, and strong analytical competence. + Demonstrates a deep understanding of project management competencies, methods, and terminology. + Requires excellent proficiency in coordinating, organizing, and handling administrative duties. + Must be able to work independently and within a team setting. + Proficient in Microsoft 365 Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.). + Knowledge of Primavera and Power BI is preferred. + This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude. The expected annual compensation range for this position is $101,000 – $126,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
