Job Title: Construction Materials Inspector
Job Description
Seeking Construction Material Inspectors to perform testing and inspection services for building construction and infrastructure projects. Responsible for performing on-site testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, asphalt, steel, masonry, and more to ensure they meet project specifications. Documenting test results and field activities daily and communicating directly with owners' representatives, project managers, contractors, and other on-site personnel. MUST be willing to travel, work a variable schedule including occasional weekends and overnight, and be outdoors in the elements for extended periods of time.
ResponsibilitiesConduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.Ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway, drainage, pavement, water works, electrical, maintenance of traffic, pavement markings, signing, topsoil removal, demolition, foundations, sub-grades, guardrails, slope protection, and more.Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals and bridge projects.Verify plan quantities and calculations with as-bid plans, prepare and maintain project records and reports, and perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer.Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work.Prepare and maintain project records and reports and perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer in a timely manner.Some travel required; mostly local but occasional overnight/out-of-state trips are required.Some weekend and overnight work is required.Essential SkillsHigh school diplomaPrior construction or manual labor experience (e.g., landscaping)Basic understanding of construction drawings/blueprintsStrong attention to detail and ability to write accurate reportsAbility to effectively communicate with on-site personnelWillingness to work a variable schedule, including some weekends and overnight workWillingness to work outdoors on job sites year-roundWillingness to travel and stay in hotels as requiredAdditional Skills & QualificationsODOT pre-qualified construction inspector: ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I / ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I, or Ohio Aggregate Level IPrior ODOT Inspection experiencePrior construction inspection experienceRelevant degree: Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or Construction ManagementWork Environment
Will be working almost completely in the field on various building construction and ODOT job sites. Some travel will be required, which may be out of state. The schedule will vary week to week based on the contractor's needs. Some weekends and overnight work (e.g., during concrete pours) will be required. Will be working outdoors in the elements year-round.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
