Your role as the CMT Department Manager will both utilize and expand your talents to provide project management and oversight of CMT projects as well as supervision of the CMT department. In addition to your daily responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to create lasting relationships with our diverse team and directly contribute to our path to becoming the most sought after, respected, and successful engineering firm in the country.ResponsibilitiesTravel to various job sites in a company provided vehicle as neededManage the full lifecycle of field services engineering projects and laboratory operationsLead a team of CMT engineers, project managers, and techniciansEnsure projects adhere to CMT engineering best practices, safety standards, and quality control proceduresPerform technical review of proposals, reports, and calculationsTrack department budget, revenue, forecasts, and financial performanceSet goals for the CMT/Field Services group and develop staff skills through training initiativesAssist senior staff with business development efforts through community involvement and client engagementAttend project meetings and troubleshoot problems in the fieldPromote company values, positive culture, and high employee engagement Review daily field reports from a technical oversightApprove weekly timesheets and department expense reports Prepare invoicesOther duties as assignedQualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentPreferred: 4-year degree from an accredited university with a focus in Civil Engineering or relevant field of studyPreferred: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia or ability to obtain licensure within three months of hire6+ years of related engineering experience, including conducting laboratory testing, construction observation, field quality assurance testing, site grading, and supervising construction materials testing.Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.Strong technical knowledge of testing procedures and specifications.Experience with budgets, forecasts, and financial management.Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record Knowledge of construction materials methods, ASTM standards and soil classificationsKnowledge of Microsoft Word and ExcelOperational and project management experienceExperience in overseeing materials testing projectsAbility to evaluate “Request for Proposals,” attend site meetings or converse with potential clients to develop a scope of services and associated cost estimateUnderstand company goals and objectives and execute accordinglyUnderstanding of human resource management principles, practices and proceduresStrong leadership skills; strong and proven work ethicExcellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to analyze and correct operational issuesAbility to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly languageHighly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detailAbility to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environmentAbility to manage multiple projects and tasks at a timeProactive problem solverMust enjoy being part of a team, have a “can do” positive attitude and be confidential with all mattersAbility to work and interact with hands-on level to interactions with senior managementAbility to thrive and function in the ever-changing environment of a growing companyWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsOccasionally exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.Office work requiring long-term sitting and computer work.Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day.Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).Ability to occasionally lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs.
