Construction Site Supervisor
The Construction Site Supervisor plays a pivotal role in overseeing the construction of new homes, acquisition rehabs, and accessory dwelling units within San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity’s service area. This dynamic position entails working collaboratively with both staff and unskilled volunteers at various construction sites, homeowner occupied homes, and diverse job locations. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, guiding and training our teams of skilled and unskilled volunteers to ensure project success and the achievement of our organization’s mission.

Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site evaluations; interpret building plans, including structural and civil plans to assist the Director of Construction with work scopes, budgets and construction schedules in partnership with staff, subcontractors, and designers.
Communicate work scope and schedules to staff, and keep all stakeholders informed of changes or updates.
Oversee check in of volunteers at work site and ensure that they have the necessary tools and safety equipment.
Coordinate daily volunteer training and safety briefing.
Give on-site technical assistance and direction to volunteers, staff, and subcontractors.
Ensure that Habitat-required forms are on file prior to workdays, such as volunteer waivers and login sheets.
Identify qualified construction volunteer team leaders and provide adequate training based on skill level.
Adhere and enforce Habitat for Humanity International and San Gabriel Valley Habitat’s construction policies and requirements for quality construction.
Maintain a safe construction site according to CAL-OSHA standards.
Coordinate permitting process and acquire all necessary building permits.
Ensure all construction complies with California Residential Building Codes.
Track, approve and identify line items on invoices, statements or receipts for construction materials purchased or donated, and turn in receipts in a timely manner.
Track and manage costs in relationship to project budgets.
Assists the Construction Procurement Manager acquire materials through HFHI national agreements, local contractors and vendors.
Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies, tools and equipment. Ensure correct types and amounts of materials are at construction sites.
Assist in the solicitation of donations and sponsorships for materials acquisition.
Assist in applying for grant funding by providing information related to construction as requested.
Communicate accurately, appropriately, and effectively with volunteers, donors, homeowners, and staff.
Mediate conflicts that may arise with partners or volunteers during construction phases.
Assist in facility maintenance for SGV Habitat’s owned or leased properties; monitoring and implementing maintenance schedule for construction vehicle(s); monitoring and maintaining tool inventory and security systems.
Ensure attendance at occasional evening and weekend meetings/activities required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understand Habitat for Humanity’s philosophy with a desire to promote the mission.
Comprehensive construction knowledge with an understanding of the principles, operations, and management of construction.
Previous remodeling experience is preferred.
Experience in managing, training, and motivating volunteers.
Moderate computer and software skills including but not limited to, Outlook email, Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets.
Proficient in written and oral communication.
Ability to understand and relate to diverse populations including those suffering economic hardships.
Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with staff, business and community leaders, building officials, contractors, vendors, donors, homeowners and volunteers.
Must provide excellent customer service, including managing difficult or emotional situations, responding promptly to customer needs, soliciting customer feedback to improve service and meeting commitments.
Leadership qualities that promote teamwork are necessary to balance team and individual responsibilities.

Additional Requirements
Three or more years’ knowledge and experience in residential construction required.
Prior Habitat for Humanity construction experience a plus.
Experience working with volunteers or social services a plus.
California General Contractor License is not required, but a plus.
Valid CA Driver’s License and clean driving record is mandatory.
Must be able to work Tuesday – Saturday, 7am to 4pm

Working Conditions
Fast-paced construction environment. Tasks have fixed deadlines. The work environment may include daily exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme temperatures, construction noises, fumes and odors from construction materials. Individual may regularly withstand hot and cold weather conditions to perform outdoor responsibilities. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals. Requires standing for extended periods of time, visual acumen, and physical dexterity.

Pay Scale: $30-35 hourly
