Primary Purpose PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION Assigned to various departments, to perform the less-skilled tasks under direct supervision as a member of a crew in connection with the construction, repair and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems; to assist crew members of a higher grade; and to perform related work as assigned. Primary Duties PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES To perform such work as digging and backfilling via both mechanical and manual excavating, removing dirt and debris, mixing concrete, lifting manhole covers and concrete slabs, cutting cable and wire, rodding and cleaning ducts, and cleaning manholes and vaults. To drive trucks with or without trailers; and to operate trailer-mounted and portable power equipment. To perform assembling and dismantling operations such as installing pole and arm hardware (framing poles on the ground), installing anchors, and assembling such equipment as air pressure kits, and to install and remove hardware, equipment, bends risers, and accessories. To assist with the handling of de-energized cable or wire in preparation of work, not including operating wire stringing or cable pulling machinery, to load, unload, and hoist, lower or move materials and equipment with the use of a handline; and to assist in assembling and setting up equipment in preparation for operations at jobsites. To assist in such operations as installing and removing fire-proofing materials, corrosion preventatives, equipment enclosures and cable supports, and in boring or pipe-pushing operations. To deliver material and equipment to and from job sites as it relates to single job that the crew is currently working on. To act as an Attendant, defined as an employee who is prepared and trained to render assistance whether emergency or work related, for activities such as prevention of energizing of equipment or cables while work is in progress; to guard, but not operate, exposed energized equipment; and to protect Company property and personnel. To perform flagging and roadside protection. As a single person not as member a crew: To perform, from the ground, wood pole inspections that determine integrity and to apply preservatives. As a single person not as member a crew: To landscape at job sites including backfilling and tamping, laying seed and sod, cutting weeds, and to remove snow outside of substations. Other duties as assigned. Job Scope JOB SCOPE The Construction Worker position is intended to advance into one of the three construction workgroups while providing other career opportunities. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED equivalent Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test Possession of Commercial Drivers Instruction permit.
