As an Underwriting Quality Assurance Consultant you’ll review the most complex policies in assigned line(s) of business with curiosity to understand and recommend the best course of action for individual policies and across sets of policies. The candidate will build strong relationships, rapport, trust, and credibility with assigned cell unit(s) to be a trusted partner in quality and a subject matter expert. The candidate will have the ability to identify trends in the first-line quality assurance tool and develop appropriate messaging of those trends to the assigned cell unit(s).
Candidates should have at least three years of Surety underwriting experience, preferably across all sizes and in both Contract and Commercial, and will possess the drive to improve financial performance through continuous quality improvement of underwriting.

Key Responsibilities:
Reviews the most complex work done within commercial lines against quality standards, rules, and desired business outcomes. Uses curiosity to understand and identify the best course of action based on the situation. Rereviews the quality reviews done by others.
Makes recommendations for improvements in policies, practices, and procedures. Determines action items for broad improvement based on evaluation of trends.
Actively participates in discussions related to interpretation of guidelines to ensure consistency and calibration across the team. Leads calibration discussion and leads resolution and follow-up of issues. Resolves action items for broad improvement within team and various business units. Influences change to increase alignment of best practice.
Builds strong relationships, rapport, trust and credibility with business partners and peers. Proactively reaches out to strengthen relationships and identify needs. Seen as a subject matter expert and critical resource by business units. Seeks out and identifies issues that may impact individual and groups of partners.
Prioritizes own work and may plan work of others based on project, team, and business unit goals. Aware of other department and business partner workstreams that may impact priorities. Participate on a team to plan implementation of large, multi-faceted projects. Plans significant projects and the work of others completing portions of the overall project.
Develops ad Hoc reports necessary to identify issues and trends or to resolve complex or previously unknown issues. May entail combining data from multiple sources to fully understand and identify a solution. Does this based on own identification of trends or curiosity rather than standard reporting for others. Identifies and contacts partners regarding trends and issues that present concern.
Provides appropriate communication through the best method based on the situation and complexity. Communicates outcome of analysis and perspective regarding impact, trends, recommended corrections, and results of actions taken. Develops and communicates consolidated feedback or observations from work across the department. Provides input into messaging for business unit issues and communications and participates in presentations to leadership.
Participates on projects and lead a portion of a larger overall project. May be responsible for project identification, goal development and completion on behalf of partners or team.
Follows processes and uses judgement in situations where guidelines are unclear or missing. Identifies issues or larger impacts and proactively identifies needed changes with the processes. Actively supports and drives process changes that are being implemented. Leads problem solving and change efforts.
Builds reputation as a trusted source and subject matter expert ensuring credibility of recommendations. Consulting recommendations at this level are expected to be robust and multi-faceted considering all possible situations or outcomes. Typically has expertise in a subject matter area and is called on to resolve questions for others for large complex issues or initiatives requiring extensive research, evaluation, and technical expertise.
Attends necessary training and stays current with technology and other knowledge necessary to perform expectations of the role. Identifies gaps and provides input into training as a subject matter expert. Trains, mentors, and provides guidance to new and existing associates. Identifies, leads, and delivers training necessary to support the business. Identifies and communicates training needs and opportunities to leadership.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager or Director. This is an individual contributor role.
Typical Skills and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: AU, CIC and/or CPCU preferred.
Experience: Typically, ten plus years of general commercial lines experience including three years technical experience (Claims, Underwriting, etc.) preferred, based on the role.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Has a good understanding of commercial lines business and proficiency in conflict resolution. Working knowledge of the commercial business unit practices including company products, business unit expectations and overall commercial growth and TCR goals. Overall understanding of the company systems, commercial insurance coverages, state statutes and regulations pertaining to commercial business. Analytical and critical-thinking skills. Excellent judgment in choosing courses of action. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use personal computer with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software. Capable of working as part of a team environment. Accommodates and anticipates the broad spectrum of customer's needs-both internally and externally.
