Consultant, Transportation Planner
This Opportunity Our **Transportation and Environmental Planning Team** based in **Portland, Oregon** is looking for a full-time **Consultant Transportation Planner** to support and grow our diverse range of transportation planning services. The position could be located in **Portland, OR; Vancouver, WA; Boise, ID; or Anchorage AK.** We work on projects of all scales, from small town multi-modal corridor enhancements, to some of the most complex large-scale highway and bridge improvements. Project work for the selected candidate could include complete streets planning and design, road user safety projects, high-capacity transit planning, new mobility strategies, and major highway modernization. The **Consultant Transportation Planner** will provide coordination and analytical skills to support these varied projects. Tasks may include coordination of workstreams, writing reports and memorandums, analyzing data in GIS and/or Excel, developing work plans and facilitating delivery of materials, and supporting the creation of visuals. This position will provide support for multi-modal planning projects; transportation alternatives analysis; statewide, regional and local plans; and public involvement and communications or government relations, including committee coordination. The ideal candidate will be flexible and responsive to support and lead tasks in a highly collaborative, dynamic environment to produce high quality deliverables. Candidates will not be expected to conduct all of the listed tasks within this job description, and will be encouraged to pursue pathways in alignment with career aspirations, project needs, and candidate skillset. WSP's talent acquisition and Planning Team goals include hiring the candidate who is best able to meet the performance objectives of the role. **We therefore encourage persons with non-traditional skill sets and experiences to apply, even if you believe you do not meet 100% of the qualifications and hiring criteria described.** Your Impact + Collaborate with a team across departments (planning, communications, traffic, environmental, engineering) to deliver outstanding work products and strategies for client projects. + Prepare plans and policy language, with a particular emphasis on transportation and multimodal travel. + Lead development of technical memos, meeting minutes, transmittals, presentations, and other written materials. + Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data using tables, charts, reports, or infographics. + Coordinate with cross-functional teams for the preparation of technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions. + Identify workstream gaps and develop/implement workplans associated with remediation. + Conduct and/or support public involvement activities, including developing and implementing meeting work plans, creating presentation material or graphics, and staffing public and internal public agency meetings. + Maintain quality control standards and procedures for written products, calculations, measurements, patterns and trends, statistical analysis, and reporting. + Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. + Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field; AND three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in the transportation and/or urban planning field. + Any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions. + Familiarity with the transportation project development cycle, from planning to funding to implementation. + Strong organization skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet project objectives. A successful candidate would be able to: manage multiple projects or tasks, meet deadlines and deliverables, plan for upcoming tasks, and maintain responsive communication with the project team. + Interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas to technical and non-technical audiences. + Strong analytical and writing skills to produce planning documents and technical memorandums. + Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. + Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may occasionally extend beyond the typical work day or week. + Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. **Preferred Qualifications:** + A member of and/or active participation in professional practice organizations such as APA, WTS, NAEP, APTA, ABPB, IBTTA or other related organizations. + Experience working for or with public agencies involved in transportation and mobility. + Post Graduate Education (Graduate Level courses, professional certification courses, Masters, PhD) or comparable work experience in transportation or land use planning. Compensation: Expected Salary (all locations): $64,000-$109,780 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
