Boston Operations has an immediate opening for a Boiler & Machinery Consultant Engineer. B&M Consultant Engineers will interact with FM clients from many different industries. Engineers will use their expertise to evaluate boiler and machinery deficiencies, exposures, and risks. As a Boiler and Machinery Senior Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies.

 

This is a position for a Home-Based Resident Consultant Engineer primarily serving the territory of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and up state NY. Ideally the candidate should be residing in the central MA area.

Responsibilities

Evaluate the integrity and reliability of client production and support systems. Evaluate equipment, identify hazards and deficiencies, and deliver focused risk improvement solutions to reduce the client’s risk.

 

Use operating standards, data sheets and guides to provide risk guidance and implement best practices.

 

Prepare engineering reports in a timely fashion, to provide loss prevention recommendations and loss expectancies to support client risk improvement. Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting on Boiler & Machinery recommendations.

 

Conduct boiler and pressure vessel jurisdictional inspections as needed.

Illustrate the value-added differential of FM engineering capabilities.

Engineers will work from a home office, must be able to manage their time and work independently with minimal supervision.

 

This is a field-based role and will require travel to large, complex industrial client sites to evaluate the operations and systems of the site and identify risks and hazards. Expected overnight travel is 30-35% on average.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the power generation industry with a focus on asset integrity, utility operation/management, maintenance, or project engineering. Candidates with other industry experience such as heavy industrial manufacturing, military engineering (with an engineering degree), or equivalent will also be considered.

Must possess knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems such as rotating equipment (steam and gas turbines), boilers, generators, system interrelationships and knowledge of safety devices.Required to have or have the ability to obtain national board jurisdictional commission and necessary state licenses.Demonstrated experience to understand basic machinery and equipment along with hands on exposure.Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in MS Office products is required.Must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills.Candidates will possess strong time management, and prioritization skills, and will be hard-working.A valid driver’s license is required, a company car is provided.Physical Requirements:Able to lift up to 25 pounds or 11.34 KilogramsAble to climb ladders
