IU Health is actively looking for a Consultant-Lactation I to join the Adult Medical Unit at Methodist Hospital. This is a prn (as needed) position, with two available shifts: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM, depending on the day of the week. We are seeking coverage for these shifts due to existing vacancies. Why Join IU Health? Provides comprehensive infant feeding services to families through inpatient and outpatient services. Develops, markets, and implements plans for the program. Increases awareness of the lactation program and develop educational materials for use with various audiences. 

Requires certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (I.B.L.C.E.). Current BLS Certification required. IBCLC certification within 1 yr. Background working with childbearing families or maternal health nursing. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize workload. Ability to plan and manage utilization of resources. Strong customer service skills. Basic Life Support certification required within 1 month of hire or upon completion of department orientation. Ability to provide clinical reasoning; decision-making and clinical thinking. Ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment. Ability to provide multiple forms of communication (presence; touch; eye contact; etc.). Ability to recognize and appreciate cultural diversity at many levels. Ability to provide high level of patient confidentiality. Strong written and verbal communications skills at the staff, patient, and family levels. Ability to actively seek educational opportunities to improve clinical practice. Ability to maintain quality working relationship with peers. Ability to react appropriately in any environment or situation.
