Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) Regional System Planning (RSP) team seeks a Consulting Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will lead technical initiatives to enhance system reliability and reduce wildfire risk across PSE's 12.5kV and 34.5kV electric distribution system. As the technical lead, you will apply advanced engineering principles to complex projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive results. As a Consulting Engineer, you will leverage your extensive experience to shape strategy, provide mentorship to the engineering team, and implement innovative solutions to improve distribution system reliability. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our distribution system's safety and performance.
This position serves as the technical lead for the team and is ideal for experienced engineers seeking a role in electric utility engineering, with opportunities to shape the future of PSE's electrical reliability strategy. As a Consulting Engineer—the highest level in PSE's Engineering job family—you will be distinguished from Senior Engineers by your extensive practical experience, demonstrated thought leadership, and ability to influence peer leaders throughout the organization.
Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.
Job Responsibilities Perform reliability studies using tools like Synergi for power system simulation and analysis Develop, plan, and justify reliability improvement projects for the electric distribution system Lead and mentor junior engineers, engineers-in-training, and other technical staff Coordinate with Planning teams for holistic issue resolution Provide technical support for the operation, construction, and maintenance of PSE assets Review designs to ensure projects achieve the justified benefits and comply with standards and design requirements Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in electric utility systems that can improve system reliability Collaborate with the Electric System Design engineers to clearly define project scope for improved system reliability Apply engineering principles and practices Support emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures. Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field. Extensive experience in planning, design, specification preparation, maintenance, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 10 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly. Advanced technical and scientific expertise. Experience leading engineering projects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external customers. Desired Qualifications Experience working within the utility industry. Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) License. Knowledge of engineering economics, utility accounting practices, and industry standards for electric reliability. Experience leading complex engineering projects related to distribution systems, wildfire mitigation, or grid modernization. The pay range for this position is $120,400.00 - $200,400.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
