Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Consumables Manufacturing Technician to join our team. This role is central to the assembly and testing of our innovative Life Science consumable products, including tubing sets, reagent kits, and microfluidic chips. The successful candidate will fulfill manufacturing work orders on time, on spec, and help Engineering reach project deadlines. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to microfabrication, QC testing, and visual inspection; bagging, labelling, and packaging of tubing sets; lab cleaning, parts stocking, and production bin creation. The successful candidate will also collaborate with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to resolve production challenges and enhance assembly and testing processes.

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week 


Key Responsibilities

Hands-on assembly of large quantities of tubing sets to fulfill customer orders. Quality assurance testing and visual inspection of tubing sets using version-controlled work instructions. Bagging, labelling, and packaging of tubing sets using version-controlled work instructions. Support pilot validation activities by building intermediate-sized batches of tubing sets. Provide constructive feedback on existing work instructions. Assist, upon request, with the optimization of new work instructions. Assist with setting up, optimizing, and stocking part bins for use in production. Help to unbox, clean, and move new equipment into the Clean Room. Participate in the Clean Room and Packaging Room cleaning rotation (HEPA vacuuming, counter wiping, waste removal) Cross train on reagent kit and microfluidic chip manufacturing processes. Upon completion of cross training, operate reagent kit and microfluidic chip manufacturing lines (primarily to cover vacation and sick time). Support the NPI team to identify and solve production issues. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize assembly and testing processes.

 

Skills & Qualifications

Ability to work under a microscope and use an injection needle to apply adhesive to barbs, tubing, and check valves at the millimeter scale. Comfortable working with intense UV light sources using proper PPE. Ability to follow detailed, written work instructions. Handling and manipulation of miniaturized components (g., barbs as short as 5 mm in length, shrink bands as narrow as 2 mm in diameter, tubing as narrow as 1 mm in diameter). Background in a clean room environment and knowledge of production scaling (prototype to volume manufacturing) are beneficial. Prior experience with microfabrication, microfluidic chips, and wet lab chemistry are highly regarded. Demonstrates hard work, energy, and the capability to work independently. Respect for chain of command and coworkers regardless of their gender, race, or religion. Positive attitude and willingness to strive to meet project deadlines are very important. Competent computer skills, including the use of electronic documents and records. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

 

Education & Experience

Preferred education: Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field. At least 2 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
