Consumer Advocate
Reports to: Director AIS/MHIOP



Trainings: CPI, CPR, QPR



POSITION SUMMARY



The consumer advocate will demonstrate warmth, hopefulness and enthusiasm in their work on behalf of consumers and will have a personal philosophy which is person-centered and embodies wellness, recovery and resiliency.



Duties and Responsibilities:

•Greeting and welcoming individuals in a warm, engaging manner.

•Fostering a sense of safety and comfort by engaging with individuals and companying them to the living room area.

•Sitting with individuals to discuss issues which brought them to the Center.

•Explaining what to expect from our services

•Offering reassurance and encouragement

•Assuring consumers that they are available to them through their involvement with the program.

•Assisting consumers in developing WRAP crisis plans or Psychiatric Advance Directive

•Supporting individuals through their involvement with the program and in their transition to clinical and community supports

•Documentation must be completed within one (1) calendar day of service delivery

•Productivity goals shall meet % as designated by department



Qualifications:



Experience: Peer position that requires that the applicant self-declare past or current treatment for a mental illness. The consumer advocate will be a consumer with demonstrated volunteer or paid work experience providing case management, support and advocacy with individuals with serious mental illness.

Valid NJ driver’s license for use of Company Vehicle



Equipment Use:

Computer, copier facsimile.
