Who We Are:

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air, land, and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes and the preservation of the state's wetlands and coastal resources.

Who We Serve:

Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student Intern – Environmental Justice to perform the following duties:

Position Summary:

Environmental Justice

Create Educational Environmental Justice and Environmental E-Newsletter Targeted for High School Students

The winter spring intern will create an educational E-Newsletter for students attending high schools in environmental justice populations. The E-Newsletter will display fun, easily understood terms and language about what environmental justice is, i.e., Environmental Justice video, fun Environmental Justice and environmental exercises/activities. The E-Newsletter will also have school-aged interactive activities and facts (geared towards and appropriate for high school students) about environmental justice and the environment; specifically, MassDEP programs that may be interesting to Environmental Justice populations. The E-Newsletter will be accessible by a QR code (created by the intern) and placed on MassDEP's social media pages, Instagram, Linked-in and YouTube. The E-Newsletter will be instrumental to the Environmental Justice office staff as it continues outreach to schools and youth.

The Environmental Justice intern is creative and can build upon the basic idea of this project.

The desired Environmental Justice intern is flexible, works well with a team and can also work independently. A candidate that can multi-task and is confident, dependable and has a positive attitude.

The intern must have interest in learning about environmental justice and want to learn know more about the environmental justice program at MassDEP and EEA.

Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Office SuiteCreativity, Communication and Writing Skills.Social Media experience or familiarity.Knowledge or experience with creating newsletters or documents to be shared.
