Who We Serve:

Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

Position Summary:

Watershed Planning Program

Operations management support for the Watershed Planning Program. The Watershed Planning Program (WPP) in the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) collects scientific data from lakes, rivers, and estuaries statewide in support of multiple water quality management objectives under the federal Clean Water Act. WPP uses this data to support development of water quality criteria in the Massachusetts Surface Water Quality Standards, assess and report on the condition of surface waters, prioritize waters for restoration, track water quality trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of restoration and protection efforts. To achieve the water quality management objectives outlined above, WPP requires administrative support for program operations to meet our overall obligations to internal and external stakeholders under the Clean Water Act. The selected candidate will help to enhance operational efficiency within WPP by supporting strategic initiatives to aid process improvement.

The intern will have five basic roles as listed below.

Process and track purchases and invoices.Reconcile documents, records, and transactions to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.Perform related duties such as supporting operations management, maintaining records, and preparing reports.Interact with internal and external stakeholders to exchange information and/or to resolve problems.Perform other administrative duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to gather information and maintain accurate records.Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.Ability to communicate confidently and effectively on the telephone, in person, and in writing.Ability to prepare charts, graphs, and tables.Ability to understand and apply the regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned activitiesAbility to establish rapport with others.Ability to meet established or changing program requirements.Ability to work independently, and in an organized manner with strong attention to detail.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.
