Who We Are:

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air, land, and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes and the preservation of the state's wetlands and coastal resources.

Who We Serve:

Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student Intern – Bureau of Air and Waste - Solid Waste - Commercial Waste Reductions to perform the following duties:

Bureau of Air and Waste - Solid Waste - Commercial Waste Reduction

The intern will be working with the Commercial Waste Reduction branch at an exciting time. Since its inception in 2016, the Recycling Business Development grant (RBDG) (Apply for a Recycling and Reuse Business Development Grant | Mass.gov) has successfully awarded numerous grant applications, equating to $6.5 million. The grantees were required to submit final reports based on the completion of grant funded projects. The internship duties are to review and analyze the final reports, and prepare a RBDG Program Evaluation report focusing on job creation, tonnage increase, project accomplishments and failures, and growth since the projects were completed etc.

We are also looking to spotlight recycling grant and loan recipients and would like to develop case studies of successful recycling ventures and present this in Recycling Market Development workgroup meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of Massachusetts Solid Waste Master Plan (available on our website), which highlights the various regulatory and policy initiatives referenced above.Ability to communicate confidently and effectively.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.Basic understanding of RBDG program (available in our website).
