Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity. *Job Opening:* The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, seeks applicants for the position of Contracted Student Intern – Boston National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), located 100 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA to perform the following duties: Please submit a cover letter and resume as part of your application. Employment Period: January - May 2025 *Boston NPDES * Aid the Boston NPDES and Residuals group in reviewing Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) data. This data is submitted by wastewater treatment facilities and facilities with an Approval of Suitability for land application of residuals. The intern will work alongside other DEP staff reviewing submitted PFAS data and attend weekly team meetings. The intern will learn about PFAS sampling methods and testing requirements for wastewater and sludge. As data is submitted to MassDEP, the intern will review incoming data to either accept the submittal, reject the submittal, and/or follow up with questions about the submittal based upon the quality assurance procedures of the Program The intern will also participate in compiling annual report data for facilities with an Approval of Suitability for land application of residuals. * Assess submitted PFAS data by looking at trends and reading lab reports. * Follow up with the lab or facility with any necessary questions or corrections. * Learn best practices for sampling and testing for PFAS according to EPA laboratory analytical method 1633. * Develop and refine resources for wastewater facilities regarding PFAS sampling and permit testing requirements for PFAS. * Compile annual report data for facilities with an Approval of Suitability for land application of residuals, including conducting follow-up as needed. *Preferred Qualifications* * Coursework in chemistry, environmental science, or a related field. * Experience with chemistry lab work, through courses or other lab experience. * Ability to understand and apply the regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned activities. * Highly motivated individual with good attention to detail. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software. *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.* Please see above for Preferred Qualifications. _*Comprehensive Benefits*_ When you embark on a career with the Commonwealth, you are offered an outstanding suite of employee benefits that add to the overall value of your compensation package.
