The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air, land, and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes and the preservation of the state's wetlands and coastal resources.
Who We Serve:
Massachusetts was the first state in the nation to combine energy and environmental agencies under one Cabinet secretary. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) serves Commonwealth residents interested in outdoor recreational activities, clean energy solutions and those who work with animals and livestock. Equally, EOEEA works with energy consumers, power companies, clean energy providers and farmers to delicately balance the interaction with environmental protection laws and regulations while being a cornerstone for our economic prosperity.

Municipal Waste Reduction Branch, BAW
MassDEP’s Municipal Waste Reduction Branch works to promote recycling, reuse, composting, and the reduction of waste, by implementing grant programs, providing technical assistance, and fostering best practices. This internship will allow an intern to learn about all facets of solid waste management in Massachusetts and will work on reuse and engagement with the public via our Recycle Smart MA program, and on solid waste and recycling program processes through ourSustainable Materials Recovery Program.
Description of Internship duties:
Research reuse and repair operations across the Commonwealth.Improve and expand listings in the Beyond the Bin Search Directory.Research a waste reduction topic of interest and write a newsletter.Assist with monthly social media editorial planning, ideas, and implementation for Recycle Smart MA.Assist with social media monitoring.Research various waste reduction subjects to support current and future programs.Compile data from diverse sources for publication on mass.gov webpages.Write case studies about waste reduction programs across the state.Assist with content creation and updating solid waste reduction branch webpages.Other duties as assigned.Preferred Qualifications
Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Google forms, social media platforms, and Canva. Experienced in customer service. Strong writing skills. Keen attention to detail.GIS experience a plus.Who We Are:
