Job Description

The Contracts Attorney role will perform the critical tasks of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and intellectual property-focused agreements supporting the Genetic Science Division (GSD) within Thermo Fisher including its Microarray, QPCR & Genetic Testing Solutions business units!

Responsibilities:

Serve as the point of contact for the GSD, providing support and legal expertise necessary to enable business growth.Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, licensing agreements, and confidentiality agreements.Provide guidance and involvement to other relevant functions, such as regulatory, intellectual property, licensing, business development, purchasing, finance, commercial, and product management, and facilitate appropriate leadership approval.Negotiate directly with external customers and their counsels, collaborating with internal counsel and stakeholders as required.Perform analysis on legal rights, obligations, and strategies to help the Company achieve its goals and objectives; provide counsel on business and risk management issues.Participate in due diligence and other activities relating to M&A and integration activities.Develop new and update existing contractual documents and constantly work with the business on improving processes to ensure efficient support.Train internal clients on risk management and how to best engage with the Legal team.

Job Requirements:

JD degree and admission to state bar is required4+ years of legal experience, including contract preparation, negotiation and related activities resulting in an experienced working knowledge of contract law and risk allocationPrior in-house experience preferredExperience working in life sciencesSolid understanding of intellectual property lawCommercial experience and solid understanding of standard business processesExcellent writing, negotiation and interpersonal skillsAttention to detail, ability to prioritize, and understanding of when to seek advice from or raise matters with Legal Department leadership, company executives or other company personnel, or external consultants is essential
