Job Summary/Basic Function

The Contracts Manager will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of contracts and agreements on behalf of the institution. This role will ensure that all contractual obligations comply with state regulations, MTSU policies, and relevant legal standards. The Contracts Manager will work with various departments to support procurement, vendor agreements, grants, research contracts, and other institutional business transactions. The position requires strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills to minimize risk and protect the interests of the institution. This position reports to the Senior Director of Contract Compliance, ensuring that all activities align with institutional and regulatory guidelines.

Required Education

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a law school.

Required Related Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience, preferably in contract law, focusing on higher education or public institutions.
Experience negotiating and drafting complex contracts.

Desirable Related Experience

Experience working within or for public institutions, particularly in higher education.
Familiarity with Tennessee Procurement laws and state agency regulations.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to grants and sponsored research.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

An active license to practice law in the state of Tennessee is preferred.
