About the role

Position Description: While working under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis.  The Control Room Operator will respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and execute plant shutdown and start-up procedures and ensure that the plant meets it’s generating requirements while operating in a safe and environmentally efficient manner. At times, the Control Room Operator will lead and direct other employees on their shift to address various plant conditions. 

Position Responsibilities:

Control the operation of systems including steam generation, condensate, feed water, turbine/generator, circulating water, service water, fuel handling, ash handling, electrical, fire protection, air pollution control and various computer networks.

Read and interpret meters, gauges, recorders, and annunciators to determine system operating conditions; take action within prescribed normal and emergency operating procedures.

Adjust and monitor temperatures, pressures, flows, and levels on station primary system components for plant optimization.

Initiate and conduct periodic surveillance, tests and operating safety checks on equipment.

Maintain required logs and calculations; observe these logs for indications of faulty operation; notify supervisor of abnormal system conditions.

Monitor operation of systems and components including pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, grates, augers, conveyors, dust collections, etc.

Monitors operability of fire protection systems, emergency backup equipment, electrical supply equipment and instrumentation associated with station systems and components.

Monitoring air pollution control equipment

Accurately reading and recording data, and reporting equipment malfunctions or trends, which indicate possible equipment danger

Identifying and correcting abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations

Understand and train other Operators .on the operating principles of the power facility’s systems, components, and steam cycles

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

To be considered for this position the individual must have at least three years previous experience with high pressure boilers and electric generating equipment, or formal technical training and a High School Diploma or equivalent.

All Control Room Operators must have strong leadership and motivational skills, and the ability to stay alert while sitting for long periods of time. Must have basic computer, oral and written communications skills, and problem solving and decision-making ability. Must be able to read Blueprints, P&IDs, and understand schematic specifications and vendor technical manuals.

Must be able to work on a rotating shift schedule and work overtime as needed including nights, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work extensive overtime hours during planned and un-planned maintenance. 

Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust, noise, and wet conditions. Must be able to wear a respirator, climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection, lift heavy objects and other manual labor to including pushing, pulling, sweeping, and shoveling.  Reworld is a smoke free worksite.
