This is a full-time salaried position: Monday – Friday, 1st shift.

Our Gene Therapy facility, located at the University of Maryland (UMD) BioPark in the city of Baltimore, MD, specializes in upstream and downstream process development of viral vectors for clinical applications. Baltimore is a hub of national and international travel and communications and is also home to and near major universities and several federal agencies, including the FDA, USDA, NIH, Johns Hopkins University, and UMD Schools of Medicine.

The facility houses process development labs and CGMP cleanroom suites for Phase 1 and 2 programs focused on a variety of transformative technologies, including AAV and other viral vectors, vaccines, and oncolytic immunotherapies.


The on-site, Baltimore, MD, Controller is responsible for managing the daily operations of the site accounting team with the end goal of generating timely and accurate financial reporting, while creating a positive environment to lead and foster employee growth and development. The on-site, Baltimore, MD, Controller will establish and maintain proper accounting policies, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, coordinate internal & external audits, and oversee the SOX internal controls.

The Role:

Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and accounting reporting processes to ensure that Corporate, Business Unit, and Site timelines and objectives are met

Ensure financial data is recorded in accordance with company policies and US GAAP

Establish and maintain an effective SOX internal control environment   

Assist with executing site SOX internal control program

Work with site Finance Directors and Internal Auditors to establish SOX related documents (i.e. RCM, narratives, and flowcharts)

Support Internal and external audits on SOX auditing

Support site Finance, Supply Chain, Global Procurement, and other function teams on various financial and business process improvement initiatives

Take responsibility for direct reports performance by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring constructive feedback, and addressing performance-related concerns and issues

10% travel expectations (domestic)

The Candidate:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, required; MBA, preferred

CPA, required

Manufacturing accounting industry experience, required

Cost accounting experience, required

Five+ years people management experience, required

Three+ years progressive experience in the Finance/Accounting field as a Financial Controller

Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds
