Description
We are seeking a Controller to join one of our clients in Rochester, New York. In this critical role, you will oversee the Finance department, ensuring compliance with company policies, and state and federal laws. This role requires a high degree of professional judgment and situational awareness.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions, ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are completed in a timely manner
• Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting processes and software, offering recommendations for improvements to support strategic initiatives
• Prepare and manage periodic financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing cycles
• Coordinate annual review and 401(k) audit with external auditors
• Assist in creating and fostering a positive team environment for the Finance department
• Provide guidance and support to the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment
• Ensure finance department Standards of Operating procedures are updated as needed
• Assist in strategic vision of safety culture as it relates to team members and clients
• Understand the trend of Workers Comp claims and assist with requests for information from third party administrator
• Prepare weekly cash flow projections for senior management
• Assist Chief Financial Officer with annual operating and capital budget processes
• File quarterly sales tax returns
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or a related field is required
• Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role
• Proficient in using Accounting Software Systems
• Demonstrable experience in managing accounting functions
• Familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes
• Experienced in budget processes and planning
• Ability to reconcile balance sheet accounts accurately
• Knowledge of preparing monthly financial reports
• Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed financial reports for management
• Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must have a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
