Controller
Description We are in the service industry, searching for an experienced Controller to join our established real estate client in Santa Monica, California. This role involves managing financial and property management data for a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate properties. The Controller will be instrumental in the migration of properties to new accounting systems, handling monthly and annual reports, accounting entries, and tenant billings, among other responsibilities. Responsibilities: • Migrate properties from current accounting system to Yardi, setting up rent rolls, general ledgers, vendors, billings, and bank account coordination. • Handle Monthly/Annual Reports such as Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow along with Tenant Billings, Cash Receipts, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Lease Administration. • Make necessary accounting entries on a monthly basis, and for closings when applicable. • Generate tenant billings and statements while maintaining accurate records of tenant payments. • Direct and oversee Common Area Maintenance (CAM) Format, CAM Billings, CAM Reconciliations, and CAM Collections. • Review and interpret lease agreements as it pertains to rent, billings, and budgets. • Monitor lease renewal and increase dates and keep track of gross sales and percentage rent as needed. • Prepare internal books for external accountants on an annual basis. • Provide financial information and reports for refinances, closings, and prepare all distributions and intercompany payouts. • Oversee cash management on all property accounts and process wires, cashier’s checks, and intercompany transfers. • Draft initial annual property budgets and deliver lender required reports while monitoring lender reserves. • Process bank reconciliations and handle payment of mortgages, property taxes, and insurance. • Interface with Owners, vendors, tenants, and manage property entities. Requirements • Must possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in a Controller role or similar capacity • Demonstrable proficiency in Accounting Functions • Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management • Auditing skills, with a keen eye for detail and discrepancies • Proven ability to oversee and manage Budget Processes • Familiarity with Yardi Breeze and Yardi software systems • Knowledge and experience in the Commercial Real Estate industry • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities are required • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required • CPA certification is highly desirable • Must demonstrate strong ethical standards and integrity.
