Controller
Description We are in the market for a Controller to join our team in the legal industry, situated in Newark, New Jersey. The Controller will be tasked with the management of multiple bank accounts and trusts, supervision of a growing team, and the implementation of new systems. This role provides an exciting opportunity for individuals with a background in Accounting or Finance who are looking to leave a tangible impact on a growing firm. Responsibilities: • Oversee the General Ledger, including month-end closing and journal entries • Supervise a team of 3-4 individuals, fostering growth and development • Manage multiple bank accounts and trusts, ensuring proper monitoring and management • Conduct Payroll operations • Prepare comprehensive financial statements on a regular basis • Maintain thorough and accurate records for the department • Process customer credit applications with precision and efficiency • Ensure the department is upgraded and up-to-date with the latest financial systems and processes • Use Microsoft Excel for various financial tasks and analysis. Requirements • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the legal industry. • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred. • Proven experience in financial analysis and forecasting. • Excellent leadership and team management skills. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Knowledge of legal regulations related to financial compliance. • Experience with financial software and databases.
