Description We are seeking a Controller for our Credit Union based in Bettendorf, Iowa. This role involves overseeing all aspects of department functions, ensuring the most effective, efficient, accurate, and secure processes possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including accounting operations, internal controls, financial reporting, and the management of member and credit union funds. Responsibilities: • Oversee the management of all aspects of department functions to ensure the effectiveness, efficiency, and security of processes • Supervise accurate and efficient accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting • Manage the chart of accounts and necessary internal controls over the general ledger, including appropriate reconciling processes and software applications • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget, and other financial estimates, projections, and plans • Maintain a documented system of accounting internal controls, policies, and procedures • Oversee, process, and verify transfers of member and credit union funds both internally and externally • Approve and process accounts payable invoices and determine proper general ledger accounts for invoice processing • Oversee daily department operations including general ledger maintenance, fixed assets reporting, subledger balancing, and transfers • Ensure standard internal and external financial reporting of the credit union, including the quarterly NCUA 5300 report • Work closely with the CFO to ensure accounting estimates are accurate and well-supported • Oversee and direct record preservation for the department/credit union as well as conduct research as needed • Coordinate the maintenance, implementation, and refinement of accounting internal control functions • Ensure accounting records and reports comply with GAAP, NCUA, and government regulations • Work with auditors, examiners, and certified public accounts, preparing necessary schedules and providing them with assistance in performing their reviews of the credit union operations. Requirements • Proficiency in auditing processes and procedures within a Credit Union environment • Solid understanding of budget processes and the ability to implement them effectively • Proven track record in managing financial control within a financial institution • Demonstrated experience in month-end close procedures • Ability to analyze financial statements and provide strategic financial recommendations • Experience in preparing and presenting monthly financial statements • Skill in preparing and analyzing consolidated financial statements • Expertise in bank account reconciliation processes and procedures • Ability to monitor and manage bank balances effectively • Experience in managing bank deposits and related operations • Familiarity with bank operations and the ability to streamline them for efficiency • Understanding of bank policy formulation and implementation • Proficiency in conducting bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
