Controller
Description We are seeking a Controller to join our team in the Construction/Contractor industry, based in Ashland, Virginia. As a Controller, you will be tasked with overseeing and maintaining policies and procedures that ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP and JSOX, and efficient credit functions. You will also play a significant role in supporting and understanding dealership operations, preparing budgets and forecasts, and managing intercompany transactions. Responsibilities: • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure internal controls over financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and JSOX • Oversee all credit-related functions, from approvals to collections • Provide necessary support and understanding to the Branch Managers in their business activities • Monitor and report monthly financial performance, analyzing and commenting on variances to budget or forecasts • Work closely with external auditors, preparing materials and answering questions related to dealership operations and accounting • Prepare all budgets, forecasts, and other short/long term financial planning strategies • Identify areas of improvement within the dealership and implement necessary processes and procedures • Manage intercompany transactions and resolve related issues as they arise • Work with local, state, and federal governing bodies and tax authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations • Ensure appropriate inventory controls at all branch locations, directing the annual or semiannual physical inventory counts • Oversee the efficient use of the dealership operating system and IT resources, performing periodic assessments of IT resources and equipment • Review and finalize all contracts/agreements related to dealership operations Requirements • Proficient in Accounting Software Systems • Experience with Crystal Reports • Comprehensive understanding of essential Accounting Functions • Skilled in managing Accounts Payable (AP) • Expertise in handling Accounts Receivable (AR) • Familiarity with Auditing processes and standards • Knowledge of Budget Processes applicable in the construction/contractor industry • Able to effectively communicate and work in a team environment • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred • Prior experience in a similar role in the construction/contractor industry is a plus.
