Our client is a well-respected non-profit healthcare organization located near Hartford, CT. Known for its commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the community, the organization offers a positive and supportive work environment. They are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join their team and oversee the financial operations of the organization. The Controller will play a pivotal role in the organization, overseeing financial management and ensuring accurate reporting and effective operations within the finance department. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring a leader who is comfortable working in the weeds with their team while also managing the strategic financial aspects of the organization. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the non-profit sector, with a strong background in financial management, cash management/treasury, financial reporting, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Financial Management: Oversee and manage all aspects of financial operations, including cash management, treasury functions, and ensuring timely financial close.
+ Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and donor restrictions (if applicable).
+ Audit Management: Work closely with the external CPA firm to facilitate the year-end audit process and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared and accurate.
+ Leadership & Staff Development: Lead and mentor a team of financial professionals, providing hands-on support and guidance in day-to-day operations. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages professional development.
+ Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and improve financial reporting accuracy.
+ Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal financial controls, maintaining integrity and transparency in all financial activities.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and department heads to provide strategic financial insight and support organizational goals.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Prior experience in a non-profit or healthcare experience is a plus.
Certifications: CPA certification is preferred. Public accounting experience is a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
+ Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
+ Experience with financial reporting, cash management, and treasury functions.
+ Proven track record in process improvement and driving operational efficiencies.
+ Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and inspire a team.
+ Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with various departments and external auditors.
+ Detail-oriented, with a hands-on approach to managing day-to-day financial operations.
