Description We are on the lookout for a Controller to join our team in the non-profit industry, located in Petaluma, California, United States. In this role, you will be tasked with overseeing a staff accountant and taking a hands-on approach to all aspects of the general ledger, month-end close, and financial statements. This position also involves a strong focus on business development (i.e. organizational growth, not sales) and the ability to establish and maintain relationships. Responsibilities: • Supervise a staff accountant to ensure efficient financial operations • Manage and oversee all aspects of the General Ledger • Ensure accurate and timely completion of the month-end close • Prepare and analyze financial statements to inform business decisions • Implement and oversee financial planning and analysis (FP& A) activities • Prepare and post journal entries and accruals as part of the accounting cycle • Utilize grant accounting principles to manage and track funding • Spearhead business development initiatives to drive growth • Leverage strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller role or similar capacity • Proven ability to analyze financial statements and perform financial analysis • Extensive experience with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP& A) • Familiarity with preparing and interpreting financial statements • Proficiency in managing general ledger activities • Demonstrated experience with accruals and journal entries • Knowledge of grant accounting is required • Strong business development skills are essential • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred • Detail oriented certification such as CPA, CFA, or similar is highly desirable, but not required.
