Controls Engineer
Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description Responsibilities: • Select components and layout electrical control panels • Select sensors and pneumatic control components • Understand the UL508A and NEC for control system design • Write, modify, and debug PLCs, HMIs and Kinetix Servo motion control programs • Create electrical schematics, bill of material based on, but not limited to, the instructions given • Be proficient in every control aspect from budgeting time, cost control, choosing quality and reliable product • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job • Assist in the development of standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed within the department • Read and interpret customer specifications • Modify and create machine electrical schematics • Possess good logical code writing, debugging and troubleshooting skills • Work closely and collaborate with Mechanical Engineering members • Work closely under management directions but not limited to achieving own decisions in making the process more efficient, within budget and on time • Communicate over phone with customers to assist in troubleshooting installed systems • Travel to customer sites for system installation, modifications, and all aftermarket electrical controls needs (10-15% travel for a experienced role and up to 30% for mid-level role) • Train and work closely with entry-level Electrical Controls Engineers Hard Skills + Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology + Experienced with electrical/controls aspect of machine design + Literate using AutoCAD for all electrical design purposes + Familiar with selection and use of commercial products like photo sensors, pneumatics, vision systems, hot melt systems, etc. + Understanding and exposure to PLC code and motion controls + Understanding of machine timing concepts + Experience with electrical schematic software (AutoCAD light, SolidWorks Electrical is a plus) + Exposure to and interest in PLC and HMI programming, multi-axes coordinated motion control + Good electro-mechanical skills and understanding + Interest in hands-on machine work with sensor and actuator adjustments About Actalent Actalent is a global leader in engineering and sciences services and talent solutions.
