Job Title: Controls Automation Engineer
Location:  3 locations in Michigan
Salary: $80,000 - $100,000

This company is a leader in plastics manufacturing for the automotive industry for over 40 years. With cutting-edge research and a knowledgeable team, they provide full-service support, from black-box design concepts to specialized extrusion and compression technologies. We are seeking a Controls Automation Engineer to support our operations, focusing on troubleshooting, automation, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

Troubleshoot, root cause, and repair plant equipment, including automation robots and secondary equipment. Develop, test, and implement software for various systems. Manage and support equipment installation, start-up, and debugging. Lead project activities related to new product and process development, improving productivity and reducing costs. Assume a leadership role in training and implementation of equipment and processes. Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to optimize workstation setups. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cost management and budget compliance. Ensure equipment meets all safety and quality standards, exceeding governmental and internal requirements. Contribute to New Product Development by developing workflows and layouts for post-mold equipment. Maintain documentation, including standard component lists, project budgets, quotes, and equipment performance records. Participate in quality improvement teams (8-D) and cost-saving initiatives. Write set-up and operation instructions and train personnel on new equipment.

Basic Qualifications:

Associate's degree or equivalent technical training with 2-3 years of relevant experience in automation, electrical design, control system integration, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell preferred) and vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Dalsa preferred). AutoCAD experience for electrical schematics. Ability to interpret electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical diagrams. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of industry standards and safety codes. Ability to work unscheduled overtime and during off-shifts as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent use of hands, standing, walking, sitting, and occasional climbing or balancing. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in environments with moderate noise and exposure to mechanical parts.
