Controls Engineer
Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description We are seeking an experienced Electrical or Controls Engineer to design and program robotic systems from concept to completion. This role involves designing systems, specifying electrical schematics, programming PLC and HMI systems, and conducting shop testing to ensure equipment meets factory acceptance testing standards. Our custom systems cater to various industries, including secondary wood products and agriculture, and we are expanding into new sectors. Responsibilities + Design electrical schematics using Autodesk Inventor or other design packages. + Program PLC and HMI systems from scratch or modify existing drafts based on customer requirements. + Conduct thorough shop testing to ensure equipment meets factory acceptance testing standards. + Develop control schemes and create technical drawings for various robotic systems. + Customize programming for industrial robots, incorporating vision and safety systems. + Troubleshoot and program industrial equipment. + Commission equipment on-site, ensuring successful site acceptance testing. + Oversee multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. + Collaborate with other designers to review and validate technical drawings. Essential Skills + PLC programming, particularly Allen Bradley PLC. + Experience with HMI programming and factory talk. + Electrical design using Autodesk Inventor or similar software. + Controls engineering and electrical engineering expertise. + Experience with robotic systems, including ABB, Fanuc, and Kuka robots. + Proficiency in troubleshooting, commissioning, and installation of systems. + Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and RSLogix. + Knowledge of control system design and ladder logic. + Project management skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with vision systems. + Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision. + Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Work Environment Work in a small, collaborative engineering team of 10 people, fostering a family feel with a focus on long-term growth. The environment includes a temperature-controlled shop and office areas for engineering work. The role offers flexible onsite and hybrid work options, with some travel (15-20%) for installation and commissioning.
