Controls Engineer
Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Controls Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data. This role involves troubleshooting machinery, leading problem-solving efforts, and integrating controls into IT systems. Responsibilities + Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data. + Lead problem-solving efforts to resolve equipment performance issues. + Lead troubleshooting, coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and break down problems into items that can be validated. + Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians. + Assist in integration of controls into IT systems such as FIS, Error Proofing, QWX, and QTS. + Troubleshoot machinery, robots, automation, and controls issues and downtime. + Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment. + Review and coordinate project installations. + Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements. + Maintain program backups for machinery and automation. Essential Skills + At least 1 year of experience in Controls Engineering within a manufacturing environment. + Experience with PLC logic and controls, specifically Siemens or Modicon programming. + Strong aptitude to quickly learn and apply controls knowledge. + Experience with CNC, troubleshooting, and Siemens PLC. + Knowledge of programming principles on Siemens, Schneider, and Bosch PLC along with CNC/Motion controls systems. + Ability to troubleshoot PLC, CNC, robot, and other automation issues. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Direct program experience with assembly and machining controls architectures (hardware/software). + Knowledge of cell machining systems and integration of CNC controls, gantries, and auxiliary equipment. + Knowledge of ABB/FANUC robots. + Knowledge of assembly and machining RFID systems including complexity management and Vision Systems. + Familiarity with international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC, etc.) and internal/external safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, integrated safety, etc.). + Ability to read Controls (electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic) prints. + Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols. Work Environment The position is based at the Sterling Axle Plant. Candidates will work 12-hour shifts, starting either at 5:00 am to 5:00 pm or 5:00 pm to 5:00 am. Shifts will alternate between morning and night every 3-4 months, with at least one month notice before the change. The schedule is flexible, with a rotation of 3 days (36 hours) one week and 4 days (48 hours) the next.
