Controls Engineer
Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description In this role, the Controls Engineer will be primarily responsible for maintaining and improving automotive manufacturing equipment. Most of the job will involve diagnosing intermittent problems, assisting electricians to get systems online, and performing traceability work. This could include tracking down a barcode, learning the history of a part, and finding solutions. A typical day would also involve specifying hardware, updating AutoCAD electrical drawings, and collaborating with the maintenance team. The Controls Engineer will also be assigned small projects, such as integrating a barcode scanner into an existing line or adding a blower to a robotic cell. Responsibilities + Design and recommend control system architecture, products, components, and applications used in manufacturing processes; identify and resolve system integration and interface issues. + Work with Fanuc and Siemens automation equipment; troubleshoot Fanuc robots. + Utilize Hirschmann-managed switches and Ethernet/IP topology. + Evaluate new and emerging manufacturing and control technologies, adapting specifications as appropriate. + Design, develop, select components, evaluate, and install machine controls hardware. + Confirm control system functionality, including safety compliance, by designing and/or executing test procedures. + Prepare and/or review electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls drawings; collaborate with related engineering teams to evaluate components, materials, and suppliers. + Keep equipment operating by performing periodic audits; troubleshoot breakdowns; request supplies; define and review preventive maintenance plans; call for repairs; and implement process improvements. Essential Skills + Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls engineering. + Experience troubleshooting Siemens PLCs. + Experience troubleshooting Fanuc robots, CNC machining, electrical design, and HMIs. + Proficiency in Fanuc, robotics, AutoCAD Electrical, troubleshooting, Siemens PLC programming, controls engineering, ladder logic, PLC programming, Allen Bradley PLC, and Rockwell Automation. Additional Skills & Qualifications + An Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree (Associates or higher) is a plus. + Easily motivated to advance within the company and their skillset. + Experience leading a group of Controls/Maintenance Technicians. Work Environment The environment is very fast-paced as it is an automotive made-to-order supplier with three production shifts running. It is a very clean facility with a smaller environment, housing around 50 employees at the Rochester plant. Shifts are from 7 PM - 3 AM or 10 PM - 6 AM.
